A Wartime Novel

Saturday October 23, 2004
Irčne was a Russian writer, who emigrated to France and died in Auschwitz-Birkenau on August 17, 1942. According to The Guardian, Irčne's previously unpublished wartime novel, made up of 430 pages, is now available for the first time. In the article, Jon Henley quotes Irčne's daughter, Denise: "I had always rejected her victimisation, disliked the fact that what remained of her was emotion at her fate. What pleases me, after all this time, is that that is now outweighed by emotion at her talent." Read more, from The Guardian.
