Narratives of Slaves

Slave narratives are an important part of American literature. Writers like Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs helped to dispell many of the misconceptions of slavery, as they revealed personal experiences. Frederick Douglass wrote: "My feet have been so cracked with the frost, that the pen with which I am writing might be laid in the gashes." Read on:
