Charlotte Bronte -- Rethinking the Legend

Friday March 25, 2005
Bronte - romance literatureThe anniversay of Charlotte Brontė's death is just a few days away (March 31, 1855), so Tanya Gold is taking this opportunity to "rescue" Charlotte Brontė. In an article for The Guardian, Gold goes so far as to call Elizabeth Gaskell--the first biographer of Charlotte Brontė--a "literary criminal." Far from "dull" or a "Gothic drudge," Gold depicts Brontė as "a filthy, frustrated, sex-obsessed genius." Read more about Charlotte Brontė. Discover Charlotte Brontė and her masterpiece, "Jane Eyre."
