George Gordon Noel Byron, 6th Baron Byron (Lord Byron) could be considered one of the most controversial English Romantic poets. Byron was born on January 22, 1788, in London. Poverty marked his earliest days and his club foot also differentiated him, but he would become one of the most popular poets of his day. His rise to fame was punctuated just as dramatically by his early death (tragedy perhaps made more so by the fact that his contemporaries, Percy Shelley and John Keats, also died young).
