Who's This Ernest Hemingway Fellow?

Friday July 21, 2006

HemingwayWho doesn't know about Ernest Hemingway? He's only one of the most famous writers of the 20th century. If you've never read A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, perhaps you've read The Old Man and the Sea (1952), The Sun Also Rises (1926), A Farewell to Arms (1929), or For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940).

Well, July 21st is Hemingway's birthday, so it's the perfect time to read or re-read all of those classics. Which of Hemingway's works are your favorite? Do you love his prose (or hate them)? What do you think of this literary giant?

[Did you know that Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois. I always find his birth place intriguing, since I was born in Oak Park as well.]

Take a look at Hemingway Days in Key West, Florida, from AP, on Yahoo.

What do I think of his prose? I LOVE it. His clipped style appeals to me…nothing “flowery” about his style. He has Fitzgerald beat by a country mile. I have read and reread his books many, many times. I think I can say that “A Farewell to Arms” is one of the finest pieces of literature I have ever been privileged to read.
