Emma Lazarus is famous as the poet of The New Colossus, which appears on the plaque by the Statue of Liberty. A few of the most famous lines are:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore."
