100 Years of Heinlein...

Saturday July 7, 2007
On July 7, 1907, Robert Heinlein was born in Butler, Missouri. He would become one of the greatest masters of the science fiction genre (with Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov). He became famous for works like Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land. Take a look a a list of works.

In Stranger in a Strange Land, Robert Heinlein wrote:

"There comes a time in the life of every human when he or she must decide to risk 'his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor' on an outcome dubious. Those who fail the challenge are merely overgrown children, can never be anything else."

Take a look at more quotes from the works of Robert Heinlein. Here's more information about the Heinlein Centennial Celebration!

I loved Heinlein, Clarke, T.E.D. Klein and the like. As a rule, now, I do not read science fiction but I used to read a great deal of it. It seems “modern” sci-fi authors don’t have what the “older” ones did. I must say, however, that of all of them, I did really prefer Arthur C. Clarke…I think he had a better scientific background.

Once in awhile I will pick up and read a sci-fi novel and contradict myself, i.e., I loved “Children of Men”. Yes, I am very self-contradictory at times.
