Where's Your Dictionary When You Need It?
Tuesday July 10, 2007
I both love and hate reading in bed when I want to fall asleep. Some days, I can only get in a few words of reading before my lids close (as if of their own accord). But other nights, I find myself wide awake. I want to see what happens, and I can't put the book down. I LOVE those nights, but I always find myself regretting my midnight reading spree--when I have to go to work the next day.
That's why a recent blog entry on The Guardian caught my attention: "Don't read the dictionary after dark." Who would have thought that a dictionary could really be that fascinating? I know I've always said that you should keep a dictionary by you when you are reading (GREAT RESOURCE!), so I guess it just makes sense that some readers browse through every word, every line, every definition. And, we could all learn a lot from such an experience!
So, would you read the dictionary to fall asleep (or do you find it too much of an eye-opening experience)? (Take a look at a few dictionaries.)
