Do you remember the first novel you picked up? Was it for school, or did you take it off a shelf somewhere and start to fumble through the words? What are your early memories of reading?
It's easy to forget those early glimpses into novel explorations. Even if a few years have passed, I hope the time has been filled with many more adventures in in reading. If we look back at those early works, we're sometimes able to find books that will still touch us--even now, even years later.
If you're bored with reading, or having a hard time finding a book that sparks your attention, why not return to books you've loved before? Read them again, or find books by the same author. Even if you've already devoured all the books before, you may find that revisiting those favorites is just what you need to re-inspire your passion for reading. Remember when...?
In A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith writes: "Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time."

The first novel I remember reading was “Fantastic Voyage” by Asimov.
I must have been 9 or 10 years old at the time. I didn’t understand all of the medical terms in the novel but the premise of the book captivated me. Their has not been a time since then that I have not had a novel of some type on my night stand. I am now 54 years old and look forward to every novel I pick up being a “Fantastic Voyage”!
I don’t really remember the first book that I read but the first book that I read that really sucked me into the magical world of reading was “The Happy Hollisters” by Jerry West. From that point on I was hooked and still am.
I think the first thing I read was some silly sweet valley high book… I don’t remember caring for it much but I was thrilled when I finished it.. I really felt like I had accomplished something and that lead to a life long love of books… Good books, bad books, classics, graphic novels, whatever….
I don’t remember the first book I read but the first one that affected me deeply was Gone with the Wind. I couldn’t sleep for many nights thinking about everything in the book. Then the movie came out (a new Technicolor version of the 1939 classic movie) and I had many sleepless nights again.
The first major novel I remember is Gone With the Wind. It was during summer break and I disappeared into my room for three or four days and read it from cover to cover. Wow. That was when I used to have ALOT of determination! hahaha.
The first book of choice I read as an adult was Lady Chatterly’s lover.
I was 16, and my mother inspired me to read it, telling me it was the only book she had read, and immediately started to read again when she came to the end. D.H.Lawrence has become my favorite author, with Son’s and lover’s being my all time favorite.
The very first book that induced me into a life-time of reading was an abridged version of the “Green Grass of Wyoming”! I felt I was there in Wyoming in my previous life and was part of the story that unfolded!
