You may be one of the pro-resolution people, which means that you want to make a better life for yourself this year:
- Better (more fulfilling) work
- Healthier (more sane) you
- Reduced (less stressful) environs
- More time for the things that matter
- A year of reading...
Or, you're an anti-resolution person:
- No time to make a change
- No money to re-shape your life
- And, no desire to track the change...
Whatever you've resolved, it will be what it will be: Good or bad; happy or sad. This year will be what we make of it. So, here's the missive that will start the new year.
I've been watching my little boy--running, laughing and playing. He pursues the world--full-tilt, without reservation--and his current favorite movie is The Little Engine That Could. What would my life be life if I really (full and truly) followed his example, if I pursued life--never afraid that I might fail.
From Maya Angelou: "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."
This year will be a time of discovery (whether you WANT to discover it, or not). Life will happen around you. There will be good moments. And, there will probably be times when your heart will break.
I hope that the good (and happy) times outnumber the difficult (and heart-wrenching) ones. Always remember that you are not alone. And, keep a book close by. Be open to the solace and wisdom that so many of the greatest literary works offer--if we listen (and are willing to learn).
