Tuesday September 27, 2005
Ulysses, by James Joyce is one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century. Written in stream-of-consciousness style, Joyce's infamous novel was first published in 1918. Set on June 16, 1904, Ulysses follows the path of Leopold Bloom on his epic journey through Dublin. The book was initially banned and burned by the U.S. Post Office. When the case went to trial, the court ruled that the book must be considered in its entirety ("its dominant effect"), not solely on the basis of select passages. Read more about banning Ulysses.
