Jose Rizal - Filipino Hero

Tuesday June 19, 2007
Born on June 19, 1861, José Rizal was a famous Filipino hero. He also wrote poetry, novels, and essays--famous for Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Two of his works of poetry include: To the Philippines and Memories of My Town.

In "Memories of My Town," Rizal writes:

"When I recall the days

Of a murmuring lagoon;
When I remember the sighs
Of the breeze that on my brow
Sweet and caressing did blow
With coolness full of delight..."
