Jose Rizal - Filipino Hero

Born on June 19, 1861, José Rizal was a famous Filipino hero. He also wrote poetry, novels, and essays--famous for Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Two of his works of poetry include: To the Philippines and Memories of My Town.
In "Memories of My Town," Rizal writes:
"When I recall the days
That saw my childhood of yore
Beside the verdant shore
Of a murmuring lagoon;
When I remember the sighs
Of the breeze that on my brow
Sweet and caressing did blow
With coolness full of delight..."
In "Memories of My Town," Rizal writes:
