Wondering... A Writer's Way?
Friday February 1, 2008
I wondered what would be written about the recent endorsement of Toni Morrison for the Obama camp. My wondering didn't wait long...
John Freeman posted a discussion on The Guardian Book Blog. It's all about Toni Morrison (her stark difference from Maya Angelou's endorsement of Hillary Clinton), but it's more than just about the letter she sent to the Obama campaign. There's that comparison again--between John F. Kennedy and Obama. And, there's that intimation that he's a writer of the people, a throwback to by-gone days when James Baldwin and other literary greats were part of the dialogue.
We all seem to want to rediscover the great writers of the past--in some semblance of the present personages... But, what do you think of the writerly ways of the past presidents, and would you vote for a person just because he/she was a writer?
