Jane Addams founded Hull House with her friend, Ellen Starr. Addams was the first American women to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Jane Addams was an ardent femist, known for works that include: "Democracy and Social Ethics," "The Excellent Becomes the Permanent," "The Long Road of Woman's Memory," "My Friend, Julia Lathrop," and "Newer Ideals of Peace."
