Who am I?
Where do I come from?
I am Antonin Artaud
and if I say it
as I know how to say it
immediately
you will see my present body
fly into pieces
and under ten thousand
notorious aspects
a new body will be assembled
in which you will never again
be able
to forget me.

Post-Scriptum

So, who was he? He arrived in Paris in 1920. He worked as an actor or assistant director in the theater and the cinema. He joined the Surrealists and published poetry.

Although the Surralists finally disowned him, he continued to write about his theories of theater. Many of his essays were collected in Le Theatre et son double (1936).

He wanted to restore myth and mystery to the theatre, to bring back an instinctual element.

His mental balance always precarious, he was confined to an asylum from 1937-1946.

Artaud died on March 4, 1948 in Ivry-sur-Seine.

He realized little success in his lifetime, but many of his theories are now being re-examined in France and England.
