1. Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe published his most famous adventure story in 1719. He titled the book: "Life and strange and surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe." It's no wonder the story was such a success... The story is about a man who is stranded on a desert island for 28 years. With the supplies he's able to salvage from the wrecked ship, Robinson Crusoe eventually builds a fort and then creates for himself a kingdom by taming animals, gathering fruit, growing crops, and hunting.

2. Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien is now infamous for his trilogy, "Lord of the Rings": "The Return of the King," "Two Towers," and "The Fellowship of the Ring." Tolkien's work is on an epic scale: over mountains, through enemy territory. Evil is all around these brave warriors, but they must survive!

3. Treasure Island

"Treasure Island," by Robert Lousis Stevenson, was published in 1883. The novel was his first work of fiction, but it would be followed by "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1886) and "Kidnapped" (1886). The novel tells the tale of Jim Hawkins, who undertakes a daring voyage in search of treasure that's indicated on the treasure map that belonged to Billy Bones. The story entails treasure, pirates, and much more.
