(7th century BC) Greek writer. Alcman was one of the famous lyric poets of Greece and the first known to write choral lyrics in strophic form.

Alcman was one of the famous lyric poets of Greece and the first known to write choral lyrics in strophic form. He was a slave by birth, but managed to write six books of lyric poems. His work (simple, clear and musical) was apparently often sung at festivals.
