Barrie, James Matthew

(1860-1937) Scottish writer. James Matthew Barrie was a journalist, playwright, and children's book writer. In Peter Pan, Barrie writes: "When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies."
