Etherege, George
(1634?-1691) British writer. George Etherege was a comical English dramatist and the first important figure in Restoration comedy. His witty "Comical Revenge; or, Love in a Tub" (1664) and "She Wou'd If She Cou'd" (1668) set the tone for the period.
