Karl Gjellerup

Karl Gjellerup was a Danish poet and novelist. His early novels include: The Young Denmark (1879) and The Disciple of the Teutons (1882). His later novels evolved from his early naturalistic tendancies. Read more about Karl Gjellerup.

Karl Gjellerup Birth and Influences:



Karl Gjellerup was born on June 2, 1857, in Roholte, Denmark. His father was a parson, and he studied theology early on. But, he eventually was influenced by Georg Brandes and Darwinism to reevaluate his beliefs. Later in life, he was also influenced by Buddhism and other religions.
