Gray, Thomas

(1716-1771) British writer. Thomas Gray was a forerunner of the Romantic period. Professor of History at Cambridge, Gray's poems include "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College" (1742) and "Sonnet on the Death of Richard West" (1775).
