Little Toot

I remember when I first read Little Toot. My grandmother brought an old, well-loved copy of the book home from her job as a librarian. The book was a hardback copy, but the edges were tattered and discolored with wear. The pages were soft with many page turns. When I saw the book, I knew that the book had been well-used. It was not a book that sat on the shelf.

Little Toot: Revisited

Since I first discovered Hardie Gramatky's classic book, I've read many books--some more memorable than others. When I picked up this volume, it was like revisiting an old friend--watching him with his antics, overcoming his fear, and becoming a hero. The book touches upon the themes that appear in many books. The little scamp makes good. The heroic little one overcomes fear and saves the day. In some ways, it's a tale of growing up, taking up responsibility for the first time. We all have to leave those childish days behind someday (and that's what some of those books seem to teach us).

But, with Little Toot, we can revisit the days of old. And, it makes the book something that is for readers of all ages.
