What was the inspiration for Buck in The Call of the Wild, by Jack London? Was the character of Buck based on a "real" dog?
Answer: Buck is inspired by a Saint Bernard/Collie sled dog, belonging to Marshall Latham Bond and his brother Louis. They were the sons of Judge Hiram Bond a Santa-Clara-California-based banker, mining investor, and fruit packer.
